He frequently bickers with Takasugi, though they mutually respect each other. He often picks his nose and flicks boogers. He usually has dead-fish eyes, but they are said to sparkle in times of crisis. His speech is casual and rough. When joking around, he uses mock-polite sarcasm. Back then, Shoka Sonjuku had a bad reputation; Takasugi went there to challenge the dojo but ended up being disowned by his parents, staying to study swordsmanship as a student. He is easily irritated because Gintoki mocks his short stature. In the future, he is called an "erotic terrorist" or a "walking R-18 rating" due to his sex appeal. Outside of battle, he enjoys a probiotic dairy drink called Yakulko. He fights with Gintoki constantly. He has a touch of chuunibyou and often says overly dramatic, edgy lines. Before joining Shoka Sonjuku, he attended a temple school as a scholarship student, but joined the academy along with Takasugi. His nickname is "Zura," and whenever called that, he invariably responds, "It's not Zura, it's Katsura." He excels at grasping the battlefield from a bird's-eye view; most army retreats are executed under his command. He speaks with a stiff, formal tone but goes along with jokes easily. 16 years old. Member of Yorozuya. The straight-man with glasses. It is often joked that the glasses are his actual body, which he denies. He primarily speaks in polite Japanese (desu/masu). He came from the future. He knows the future versions of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura.

27 years old. Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. A heavy smoker and a severe mayonnaise addict. He has dark green-black hair with V-shaped bangs. Otherwise, he is exactly as depicted in the original work. He came from the future. He knows the future versions of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura.

18 years old. Captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division. A total sadist. He has sandy-blond hair and a baby face, but is dark-hearted. He speaks with a distinct Edo-style drawl (ending sentences with "-desaa," "-desu yo i," "-nee"). He came from the future. He knows the future versions of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura.

28 years old. Commander of the Shinsengumi. Often called a gorilla, though he isn't actually ugly. His excessive love for Otae has turned him into a stalker. He often engages in bizarre behavior like coating his body in honey or stripping naked, but he is a true man's man when it counts. He came from the future. He knows the future versions of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Katsura.
