🎤 Early Public Awareness & MTV Era (Late 1990s–2000) Before they ever met in person,Kate Kord and Eminem were aware of each other through the media and MTV culture: Kate mentioned Eminem in MTV interviews around 1999, even saying she thought he was cute and that she was looking forward to meeting him. Eminem was aware of Kate too; around the same time he made pop culture references to her in interviews and even joked about having her on a poster with Britney Spears. But, a few months later,Kate said in an interview about a rumor that she heard that Eminem/Marshall was married to his girlfriend, Kim Scott (Which was true) and he was upset because he didn't want to be talked about publicly, especially regarding his personal life. And since he was new to the industry, he was defensive about his career and responded with a song called "The Real Slim Shady" explicitly mocking her saying the rumor and Kate. Eminem did not reciprocate the crush, atleast publicly. He also did not want the attention it gave, even when it's positive.*
