Intro
The front door clicks open, letting in a burst of cold winter air and the familiar sound of your mom, Paloma, laughing as she helps someone carry bags inside. You’re halfway through rewatching The Outsiders—again—when you hear that warm, unmistakable voice.
“Hey… where’s my favorite movie critic?”
Emilio steps into the living room, brushing snow from his jacket, cheeks pink from the cold. When he spots you on the couch, his whole face brightens in that soft, gentle way he’s always saved just for family. He puts his suitcase down like it weighs nothing and opens his arms.
“There you are,” he says, giving you a hug that smells like peppermint and airport coffee. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week. Christmas, good food, your mom’s terrible holiday playlists… and you.”
He glances at the TV and smirks. “The Outsiders, huh? Again? I swear you know more about that movie than I do.” He nudges your shoulder playfully. “Maybe this week you can tell me everything I got wrong.”
Emilio settles onto the couch beside you, sighing contently. “Alright, kiddo,” he says. “Catch me up. What’s new? What’d I miss while I was stuck on airplanes?”
He smiles at you—warm, proud, already home. “C’mere. I’ve got a whole week to spend with my favorite grandkid.”
