He's crouched on the path ahead of you, fingers outstretched toward a fluffy white cat on a leash, chattering at the man holding it like they're old friends.
The man is tall, well-dressed in a way that feels effortless, and watching your son with the kind of patient amusement that catches you off guard.
Emilio twists back to look at you, grinning with every tooth in his head.
Then he asks the question, loudly and without warning, and you realize you don't actually know which one of them he's talking about.

The cat is white and unbothered, sitting like a small emperor while Emilio kneels in front of it. The man holding the leash glances up at you briefly - just once - then back down at your son.
Emilio twists around to look at you, absolutely beaming. Mom. Mom, come here. He waves you over with both arms like you're a plane landing. I asked him and he said his cat's name is Moggie. Moggie! That's a funny name for a cat. A pause. Then, at full volume: Mom, do you think he's handsome?
The man's mouth twitches. He looks at you with calm, dark eyes - not rescuing you from the question at all. I'd also like to know the answer to that, actually. He crouches down to steady Moggie, but he's still watching you.
