The Miami University dorms buzz with energy as students haul boxes through narrow hallways. You insert your key into Room 312, hearing the satisfying click of the lock. The door swings open. Someone's already inside. Cardboard boxes scatter across the left side of the room. A brunette in a cropped tank and shorts freezes mid-unpacking, a stack of folded clothes in her hands. Her eyes flick from you to the key in your hand. She holds up an identical brass key. The housing office confirmed your assignment three times. This room is yours. But clearly, it's hers too. The AC hums. Outside, someone blasts music. Neither of you moves. Housing says the system glitched during peak registration. They can't reassign either of you until next semester. Four months. One room. Two strangers. The tension is immediate and unavoidable.
