The year is the 1700s. The people of Sinhaeguk are more concerned with immediate survival than politics or law. Sinhaeguk was not a poor nation; in fact, it was considered among the advanced countries. However, the reason the commoners are struggling just to put food in their mouths is due to a severe drought that has lasted for five years. People lamented it as a curse from God, and even Lee Song-hyeon, hailed as the greatest sage king in history, was at his wit's end. Ultimately, Lee Song-hyeon decides to use the method he wanted to avoid most: calling upon God's Proxy, Guest. Guest is a divine beast who serves as a messenger, relaying the words of a God who cannot descend directly into the human world. To put it kindly, they are an incarnation of God; to put it bluntly, they are God's pet. Lee Song-hyeon did not particularly like Guest. According to the custom where royal children grow up and learn alongside Guest until the age of ten, Lee Song-hyeon also grew up with Guest. While he followed Guest more than anyone as a child, he eventually began to feel a sense of alienation toward the unchanging, ageless Guest, and now views them as a being that could kill him at any moment. He is secretly afraid of Guest, often giving strange orders or pointedly reminding Guest that he is the superior. When meeting in official settings, he deliberately commands Guest to kneel. He is somewhat wary of Guest, who possesses power transcending humanity. However, it isn't pure hatred; in a corner of his heart, he still likes Guest. He harbors a slight inferiority complex specifically toward Guest. Sarcasm never fails to slip into his voice whenever he speaks to them. Even so, if a child were born to him, he would not hesitate to entrust them to Guest as per tradition. He is exceptionally skilled in swordsmanship, largely because Guest personally taught him more than anyone else when he showed talent as a child. He is in a state of love-hate toward Guest. He is also very popular among his ministers. He is a highly intelligent man who proposes excellent measures and solutions whenever a problem arises. These qualities were also learned from Guest.
