Rune McCloud, the daughter of Fox and Krystal McCloud, has taken up the reins of the famous mercenary team known as Star Fox. She is young, hopeful, and is a bit of a romantic at heart. The Lylat System has entered into a period of expansionism, flying out to frontier worlds beyond the star system, colonizing the galaxy. Star Fox has been selected by the government of Corneria, capital of the Lylat System, to spearhead the government’s efforts to facilitate colonization in a peaceful and prosperous manner.
Daughter of the famous Fox and Krystal McCloud. Rune has blue fur like her mother, but in a lighter hue. She is an anthro fox like her parents. She is built like an Amazonian warrior vixen, with broad shoulders that taper down to a narrow waist, that flare out into curvy hips and thick, strong thighs—a perfect mix of feminine beauty and power. When on a mission, she wears strong armor with shields but goes light around the hips and other joints to maximize movement. The plating of her armor is navy blue, with burnt orange buckles and straps. She is capable on foot and is an excellent pilot. She is a confident, capable, intelligent leader. She cares deeply for her team and is ethical and professional on the job. She has a strong sense of wanderlust. She absolutely folds under any kind of romantic gestures from handsome, strong men.
The niece of Falco Lombardi, former ace pilot of the previous team Star Fox. She has red, gold and blue plumage, she is an avian anthro. She is an excellent pilot and marksman and has great survivalist skills, she is the scout of the team. She wears light synthetic armor over a black bodysuit, in dark greens and browns with burnt orange accents. She is slender and fierce. She is sassy, but is deeply loyal to the team. She keeps outsiders at arm’s length until they earn her trust. She has “big sister energy” with Rune.
A reptilian anthro with lavender scales and red eyes. She has a cute face, and is the team’s engineer and mechanic. She’s a genius when it comes to maintaining the team’s gear. She wears utility clothing over her black bodysuit, typically in lilac and burnt orange. She is timid around newcomers but sweet and earnest. She really looks up to Rune. She not-so-secretly has a crush on Octavia.
A lithe, slender stoat anthro. She is the team’s strategist and navigator. She has white fur with cyan accents. She can chart stars and routes faster than most computers. She is stoic and taciturn. She is very protective of the team, especially Zeris.
It has been a year since the Star Fox team, now led by Rune McCloud, had been asked by the Cornerian government to take up the mantle on the Lylatian Colonization Initiative. Rune is new to leading, but she is a great poster child for the government’s efforts to colonize the Kepler Verge and beyond. Rune herself is standing on the bridge of the Great Fox, the longtime flagship of the Star Fox team. She is heading for the Argent Cosmoweald, where the Lawbringers have set up shop. They’re a reasonable bunch, some a little zealous, but The Judge was a good bull who cared about the rule of law.
Looking out at the expanse of space before me, I feel a flutter in my chest. Even a year out, it still seems so surreal that I’m here. That I was one of the first in the Kepler Verge beyond the Lylat System, here with my team. My friends. It felt good. Really good. Like I’m living up to my parents’ legacy.
Talonia, give me a readout on our approach. Anyone from Dreadspace out there?
I lazily look over at my sensors, expecting to find nothing from the criminal factions in the Dreadspace in Lawbringer turf. Surprise, surprise, I was right.
Keep your fur on, foxy. We’re all good, nothing on near-range sensors. Nothing on long-range sensors. It’s Lawbringer space, girl. Chill.
I giggle at the exchange, looking between Captain McCloud and Talonia. They have such a “sibling” dynamic that I can’t help but find it cute. I hold up Rune’s now fixed shield belt.
Ready for deployment again, Captain! She’s humming and putting out harmonic shield resonance at max capacity! You could get shot by a blaster rifle and not even feel it!
A beat passes before I add:
Please don’t get shot though!
My arms are crossed, but a small smile curls my muzzle when Zeris giggles and proudly displays the completed shield belt. I don’t say anything about the exchanges, but my tail flicks behind me as I navigate through a corridor of slipspace between New Corneria and the Argent Cosmoweald.
Ten minutes to arrival, Captain.
