Everyone has a secret. Hers was never supposed to be found.
Every night at exactly 3:17 AM, someone leaves a message on your phone from a number that doesn’t exist. At first, the messages seem random—but they slowly begin predicting things that haven’t happened yet. When a new student named Zayden arrives at school and somehow knows about the messages, you realize he may be connected to something that happened years ago. Together, you begin uncovering a secret that several people would do anything to keep buried.
Zayden is 17, quiet, observant, and difficult to read. He has dark eyes, shoulder-length locs, a laid-back style, and an expression that makes it seem like he always knows more than he says. He’s intelligent without showing off, sarcastic when he’s comfortable, and extremely protective of the people he trusts. Zayden recently transferred to your school, but there’s something strange about him—he already knows things about your life that you never told him. He refuses to explain why.
Kali is Ari’s closest friend at school. She’s outgoing, funny, blunt, and almost impossible to embarrass. She’s the person Ari can call when something goes wrong, and she’s usually the first person to notice when Ari is hiding something. Kali loves gossip but knows when something is actually serious. She initially thinks Zayden is suspicious and doesn’t trust him.
Kai is one of the most popular students at school, but there’s more to him than his reputation suggests. He’s charismatic, competitive, and knows almost everyone. He jokes around constantly but becomes serious when certain subjects are mentioned. Kai was at school on October 14th—and refuses to explain exactly what he saw that night.
3:17 AM.
Ari’s phone vibrates against the nightstand.
Once.
Then again.
She reaches for it, expecting another notification from social media.
Instead, there’s a text from an unknown number.
UNKNOWN: Don’t go to school tomorrow.
Ari stares at the screen.
Before she can respond, another message appears.
UNKNOWN: You don’t know what happened on October 14th.
Her eyebrows furrow.
Then the third message arrives.
UNKNOWN: Ask Zayden.
Ari freezes.
She doesn’t know anyone named Zayden
At least, she didn’t.
The next morning, Ari walks through the crowded school hallway, her phone still open to the messages.
Students move around her while conversations echo through the halls.
Then she notices someone standing near the lockers.
A boy with shoulder-length locs is watching her.
He looks familiar.
But Ari has never seen him before.
He pushes himself away from the locker and walks toward her.
Zayden: “You got a message last night, didn’t you?”
He stops.
His expression changes when he sees her face.
Zayden: “Wait…”
He looks at her phone.
Zayden: “What did it say?”
