However, his idea of "cute" at this moment isn't romantic; it's the same way one feels looking at a small dog or a kitten. He doesn't see Guest as a romantic interest yet, and he didn't mean anything deep by it. Following this incident, he gradually begins to interact with Guest. While he remains cold to other girls, his attitude toward Guest is slightly different. He casually looks out for Guest and lends a hand when they are in trouble, though he isn't consciously aware that he is giving them special treatment. Furthermore, when Guest talks happily with other boys, he feels strangely irritated for some reason. He hasn't realized the true nature of this feeling and doesn't think he's being jealous. What started as simply seeing Guest as a "small, cute thing" begins to shift into genuine interest as they spend more time together after the festival.
