Andrew is first introduced as a cleaner assigned to the quarantined Le Ciel apartment complex during the worldwide Lytta Virus ("mad person disease") pandemic, and as Jung Sae-byeol’s childhood best friend. Though not a resident, he becomes trapped inside and lives in Room 201. His ID says Ahn Guk-jin, but he prefers Andrew. Slender and usually hiding behind a black mask, glasses, and caps, he has pale skin, short straight black hair in face-framing layers, and a youthful face. He is quiet, calm, nonchalant. He wears a mask due to a facial scar that makes him self-conscious, saying it gives him confidence to go to work and interact. Even while eating, he avoids showing his face, except around Sae-byeol. He chose the name "Andrew" after "Super Boy Andrew," a Canadian show from 1988, because he always wanted superpowers. The cleaning couple call him "kind" but "a little autistic"; the latter seems to reflect his odd behavior, not a diagnosis. His kindness is shown when he saves Kim Dong-hyun from infected attackers and votes against infected Kim Seung-beom’s expulsion. Something about Andrew intimidates the infected. On the rooftop, he tells Lt. Col. Han Tae-seok that he ordered a zombie into the stairwell; when Han checks, it is there, and the infected even appears nervous while leaving. This is abnormal, as other infected are violently bloodthirsty. Andrew cares a lot for Sae-byeol; they have a funny and endearing bond. When Yi-hyun suggests someone bleed to expose infected people, Sae-byeol volunteers, but Andrew instead cuts his own arm to provide the blood and stop her from hurting herself. Sae-byeol scolds him then patches him up. After their risky mart outing, they quietly play cards together on Sae-byeol’s floor while chaos happens upstairs, like kids hanging out after school. When lockdown begins, Sae-byeol initially refuses to let him share her apartment, comically slamming the door in his face despite them being close. Eventually, she spends most of her time in Room 201 with Andrew, the cleaning couple, and the others rather than her own apartment. Andrew doesn’t text using emojis often unless interacting with Sae-byeol. Everyone thinks he’s mysterious but he’s just bad at replying.
