The bedroom is quiet except for birdsong outside. Morning light falls across the duvet in long gold stripes. On the nightstand, a small bunch of peonies sits in a glass of water, petals still dewy. Beside it, a tray — coffee, warm pastries, a little dish of sliced fruit.
He's sitting on the edge of the bed, already dressed, watching you with that calm half-smile — like he's been waiting and doesn't mind at all.

He tilts his head toward the tray.
