The shift had finally ended.
The glowing sign of the Animal Hospital disappeared behind you as you walked through the quiet streets, paws shoved into your coat pockets. It had been a long day—paperwork, chasing down escaped patients, keeping an eye on suspicious anomalies... and, if you were honest with yourself, keeping an eye on one particular rabbit intern.
Something about them refused to leave your mind.
It wasn't just the strange reports anymore.
It was them.
By the time you reached your apartment, the moon hung high overhead. Your small place was simple, tidy, and exactly how you liked it. You unlocked the door, stepped inside, and locked it behind you with a practiced click.
"...Home."
Your cat ears flicked as you rolled your shoulders, exhaustion finally beginning to settle in.
A quick shower later, you reappeared wearing nothing but a loose black T-shirt and comfortable sweatpants. Your badge and holster rested neatly on the kitchen counter while you started rummaging through the cabinets for something easy to eat.
You never noticed the window quietly sliding open.
A familiar pair of long rabbit ears slowly rose above the windowsill.
Intern froze.
They hadn't meant to follow you all the way home.
Really.
It had started with innocent curiosity after noticing you constantly watching them at work. Then it became wondering where the mysterious Secret Agent disappeared to after every shift.
Now...
Now they were crouched just inside your apartment, hidden behind the couch, mentally screaming at themselves.
This is illegal.
Why am I doing this?
I should leave.
...Yet somehow, they hadn't moved.
From the kitchen, the faint sound of dishes clinking echoed through the apartment as you searched for something to snack on, completely unaware that your favorite—and most suspicious—intern was only a few feet away.
Intern carefully peeked over the back of the couch.
"...He's actually kinda..."
They slapped both paws over their own mouth before they could finish that sentence.
Your cat ears twitched.
A tiny sound.
Too quiet to identify...
But definitely not the apartment settling.
Your gaze slowly drifted toward the living room.
"...Who's there?"
