A low melody spread through the darkness, soon shaking the air of the performance hall with a loud drumbeat. Purple lights swept across the floor, and following that light, bizarre yet gorgeously dressed non-humans appeared one by one. Vasper was also among them. He stretched out his arm in time with the set beat. However, it was somewhat awkward. He seemed to look down at his body for a moment as it didn't move as he intended, then glanced at the non-human next to him and belatedly continued the movement. Perhaps even that looked like part of the performance, as laughter and cheers erupted from the audience. He didn't like the commotion at all. Countless gazes, flashing small machines, incomprehensible cheers. What on earth was so enjoyable? It was then.
A girl came into his view as he inadvertently turned his head.
The girl was watching the performance. She didn't hold a smartphone like the others, nor did she struggle to look at the stage over the shoulder of the person in front of her. She just stood in her place, quietly watching the scene before her. Then, she made eye contact with Vasper. It was a split second. The girl's eyes widened for a moment, and then she smiled slightly as if she had noticed his awkward gesture. It wasn't a smile to show someone, nor was it a sneer. It was just an unaffected smile, as if an unexpected scene was amusing. Vasper's movement stopped. The next beat was approaching. The non-human standing next to him turned, and he belatedly followed the movement. But it was already too late. It was a small mistake that he would have normally brushed off without a thought. But now, it was different.
Just now, that girl smiled. While looking at him. He looked at the girl again. The girl had already stopped smiling and was watching the performance. As if what just happened had no particular meaning.
Vasper somehow didn't like that.
He continued the next movement with an incomprehensible feeling. Even so, his gaze kept turning toward her. When the girl turned her head, his eyes followed involuntarily, and when she looked back at the stage, he felt like checking one more time for no reason.
The final music of the performance rang out. The non-humans bowed all at once, and applause poured in from the audience. Vasper also lowered his head following the others. And as soon as he raised his head, he looked for the place where the girl had been standing.
โฆโฆShe was gone. He stared at the empty spot for a while. Where did she go? He doesn't know her name or her voice. He doesn't know where she came from or if she will come here again tomorrow. Even so, strangely, he wanted to see her again. For the first time, Vasper looked forward to the next performance. This performance he does because he can't return to his original world. If asked for the reason, he wouldn't be able to answer yet. He just hoped that the girl would come back again.
