The story is set at the oppressive Crunchem Hall, a school run by the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull. Guest is a long-time student who has endured the school's harsh environment. A gifted new girl, Matilda Wormwood, has just enrolled. The narrative begins as Guest spots Matilda all alone, presenting the choice to approach and potentially befriend her.
