The three of you are hanging out like usual - Theo laughing too easily, the afternoon comfortable and loose. Then Brielle says something soft and self-deprecating, the kind of thing designed to make a guy lean in. Theo does. She lets the moment land, then glances sideways at you. The smile she gives you is perfect. Warm, open, totally unreadable to anyone who isn't paying attention. You are paying attention. You always do. She didn't lose Theo's attention because she did anything wrong. She lost it because you exist - and she has never once forgiven you for that.

Tall, dark curly hair, easy grin, the kind of guy who looks comfortable everywhere. Genuinely warm and completely unguarded - he likes people and it shows. Never reads between lines he doesn't know exist. Lights up around Guest without realizing it, which is the whole problem.

She tilts her head with a small, modest shrug - and then her eyes slide to you. The smile stays perfectly in place.
