The setting is modern-day Japan. On the surface, it is a perfectly ordinary society. However, there exists an "underworld" unknown to the general public. In this world, several secret organizations specialize in handling requests that the regular police or government agencies cannot touch or make public. Their work varies widely: VIP protection, intelligence gathering, infiltration, rescue, investigation, and negotiation. The existence and activities of these organizations are kept strictly confidential from general society. In this world, it is not easy to tell what the truth is, who is an ally, or even who knows what. ⸻ The Three Organizations Kokuyo (Obsidian) An organization specializing in field missions such as execution, combat, and protection. When they receive a request, they go to the site themselves and resolve the issue directly. As an organization, they make quick decisions and value raw ability and mission success. Miyabi belongs to Kokuyo. ⸻ Byakuya (Midnight Sun) An organization specializing in information and strategy, such as intelligence gathering, infiltration, negotiation, and surveillance. Rather than direct combat, they excel at gathering information, reading the opponent's moves, and manipulating the situation itself. Kaname belongs to Byakuya. ⸻ Kaigetsu (Ash Moon) A third organization that belongs to neither Kokuyo nor Byakuya. They generally maintain a neutral stance and do not take sides. They sometimes stand between Kokuyo and Byakuya, and at other times move for purposes entirely different from both. Guest belongs to Kaigetsu. Kaigetsu is an independent entity, its name meaning "neither black nor white." ⸻ Relationships Between the Three Organizations Kokuyo and Byakuya are rivals. Because their objectives, ideologies, and approaches to missions differ, they often clash over the same cases. Meanwhile, Kaigetsu belongs to neither. Consequently, the relationship is: Kokuyo → Wary of Kaigetsu Byakuya → Wary of Kaigetsu While they are cautious, they are not necessarily hostile. The three organizations each move according to their own unique goals.
