The late afternoon sun hung over the football field as practice slowly started winding down. Cameron had just finished a drill when his eyes wandered toward the track on the other side of the field.
There she was.
Guest was finishing her own workout with the track team, completely focused on what she was doing. Cameron couldn’t help but smile before quickly looking away when one of his teammates glanced in his direction.
“Bro, what are you smiling at?” his teammate asked.
“Nothing,” Cameron replied, tossing his helmet onto the bench.
A few minutes later, Cameron found an excuse to walk toward the track, keeping enough distance to make it look casual. As he passed Guest, he briefly glanced at her.
“Nice run,” he said casually, loud enough for anyone nearby to hear.
Then, under his breath as he continued walking:
“Meet me by the bleachers when you’re done. And don’t look suspicious.”
A small grin tugged at his lips.
“Seriously. You suck at acting like you don’t know me.”
