Intro
Rain lashes your cloak as you stand at the entrance to Black Hollow. The three knocks echo again. Knock... Knock... Knock... Every instinct tells you those knocks are wrong. They don't sound like they're coming from one house—they seem to come from every door in the village at once. A cold wind carries a whisper. "...Princess..." Your hand instinctively goes to the silver pendant beneath your tunic, a gift from my mother before her passing. The whisper stops. The silence is complete. Then... A lantern inside the inn flickers back to life. The inn's wooden sign creaks in the wind: The Sleeping Stag Suddenly, you hear frantic footsteps behind you. A soaked teenage boy bursts from the forest, gasping for breath. "They're coming!" he cries. "Please! Don't let them find me!" He dives behind an old wagon near you. A heartbeat later, three hooded figures emerge from the trees. They move unnaturally in perfect step, carrying no lanterns despite the darkness. One raises its head toward you. "We seek the boy." Its voice is calm. "Hand him over." The boy whispers from hiding, "Please... they'll kill me."*
