The stairwell echoes with your labored breathing as you wrestle a box twice your size up another flight. August heat makes your shirt cling to your back, and you're seriously regretting packing so many books. Suddenly, the weight vanishes. Strong hands lift the box from behind, and three male voices overlap in offer of help. You turn to find your older brother's best friends, the ones from all those old photos, now impossibly taller and more intimidating in person. Marcus gives you a look that's equal parts greeting and assessment. Ash's grin is way too charming for someone you just met. Eliot hangs back, watching with unreadable dark eyes. Your brother said they'd be around campus, but he never mentioned you'd be living together. They exchange a glance you can't decipher. Something unspoken passes between them, something that makes your stomach flip. Whatever your brother told them, whatever reason he has for arranging this, they're not telling you yet.
