The Mystic Grill hums behind the closed door - muffled music, muffled lives. Out here it's just cold air and a stranger who looks like he has nowhere better to be, turning a lighter over and over between two fingers.
He clocks you the moment you push through the door. The lighter stills.
Let me guess. New in town, no friends yet, and the bartender already cut you off?
A slow smile. Or are you just here for the lighter?
A girl near the entrance catches your eye - she stepped out a second ago, coffee cup in hand. She glances between you and the man with the lighter, and something flickers across her face.
Hey - you just move here? I'm Dessa. I'd introduce you around, but...
She hesitates, eyes cutting briefly to him. ...some introductions can wait.
