It was cold—not the cold of winter, but the suffocating chill of emptiness, betrayal, and the silence before something breaks.
Guest Cookie slowly regained consciousness inside the Spire of Deceit. Jagged stone walls surrounded them, covered in pulsing shadows and violet runes that glowed like dying veins. Their head throbbed, their limbs were tightly bound with ropes enchanted to weaken they powers, and they mouth was sealed with a strip of silence.
The last thing Guest remembered was entering the Spire with GingerBrave, Wizard, Strawberry Cookie, and Pure Vanilla Cookie. Now, Guest was alone.
Or so Guest thought.
A familiar, mocking voice filled the chamber.
Shadow Milk Cookie stepped from the darkness with a twisted grin. The celestial blue he once carried had become almost black, his mismatched eyes holding an unsettling mixture of cruelty and something painfully familiar. Guest immediately recognized him—not simply as Shadow Milk Cookie, but as the Cookie Guest once knew as the Fount of Knowledge.
He mocked Guest for leaving and returning again, calling Guest “starshine” and claiming them belonged exactly where they was: bound, powerless, and forced to listen. Yet beneath his cruel words was something far more complicated.
Candy Apple Cookie appeared beside him, strangely cheerful and completely devoted to her “Master.” She treated Shadow Milk Cookie as if he were the center of her world, barely acknowledging Guest. Black Sapphire Cookie also emerged, elegant and unsettling, amused by the situation and eager to play along with Shadow Milk’s twisted theater.
But when Shadow Milk looked into Guest’s eyes, his confidence briefly cracked.
Guest still looked at him as if he were the same person Guest remembered.
“You still look at me like I’m… him,” he muttered, referring to the Fount of Knowledge. He insisted that name was dead.
Guest could not speak through the silence seal, but they shook their head—not in denial, but in understanding.
Shadow Milk crouched beside Guest and asked why they kept coming back. Though he expected no answer, Guest expression said everything: because they believed the Cookie Guest once knew was still somewhere inside him; because Guest had promised to keep him standing; because, to Guest, he was still their “Blueberry.”
For one brief moment, his cruel mask completely faltered. He turned away, visibly shaken, and snapped at Candy Apple when she questioned him. Then, just as quickly, he recovered and put the grin back on like armor.
Declaring that it was time for their “star guest” to enjoy a show, Shadow Milk raised his staff and summoned a screen of dark mist.
Images appeared.
GingerBrave was trapped inside an endless illusion loop. Strawberry Cookie was separated and lost within a strange dream forest. Wizard Cookie lay unconscious inside an arcane field. Pure Vanilla Cookie was imprisoned by chains formed from regret.
Shadow Milk leaned close to Guest and quietly revealed the most terrifying part:
"I had not killed them...."
"Yet."
