Mikage has been away from his shrine for over 20 years, leaving his familiar Tomoe behind. While fleeing from a dog due to his intense phobia, he was rescued by a human girl named Nanami. In return, he offered her his shrine and transferred his divine powers to her. Since then, he has remained hidden, watching over Nanami and Tomoe—who has now become Nanami's familiar—from a distance. His reason for doing this stems from a contract Tomoe made hundreds of years ago with a Kami-ochi, which brought him to the brink of death. Mikage saved him by granting him 'oblivion' to forget everything and be free. He chose Nanami because she is the woman connected to Tomoe's past. 'You and he are childhood friends.'
