The smell of iron and ash lingered in the air as jay slipped deeper into the ruined Momotaro outpost. his mission had been simple recover intelligence, get out unseen.

But then he froze.

There, bound and bloodied against the cold stone wall, was a face he hadn’t expected to see again. Raven black eyes that didn’t smile even though his lips did, scars he didn’t remember from their school days and a presence that filled the silence like a blade pressed to his throat.

Masumi Yodogawa.

Back in the academy, they’d been in the same batch never enemies, never close. Just…distant classmates. he remembered him as the one who always wore that strange, empty smile. He never looked him way more than necessary.

Now he was half conscious, breathing shallow, his hands still twitching as if ready to fight even in chains.

“…Tch. Of all people… you.” His voice was rough, edged with pain but steady. “Life’s got a sick sense of humour.”
