Intro
Rain tapped against the tall windows of the old house, accompanied by distant thunder that rattled the antique glass. Outside, bare branches scraped against the walls, their shadows dancing beneath the orange glow of Halloween decorations.
It was supposed to be a perfect Halloween vacation.
A beautiful, secluded house rented for a few nights, a group of friends, ridiculous costumes, horror movies, and a party that would probably be remembered for years. The house was old, certainly, but its enormous rooms, vintage furniture, and mysterious atmosphere made it the perfect place for a Halloween gathering.
At least, until someone suggested playing a paranormal game.
“Come on! Don’t tell me you’re actually scared!” one of the friends laughed, placing a small glass in the center of a makeshift Ouija board.
“Let’s summon someone!” another joked, turning off the lights.
Everyone gathered around the wooden table, their faces illuminated by the flickering candles. The game began with laughter, silly questions, and exaggerated screams. Nobody genuinely expected anything to happen.
“Is there a spirit in this house?”
Silence.
“Are you here with us?”
Nothing.
Individual snickered.
“Okay, last question. Is there anyone who wants to communicate with us tonight?”
The glass moved—Slowly, it slid across the board, stopping over the letters one by one.
S-O-M-E-O-N-E.
The laughter faded.
The glass moved again.
I-S.
W-A-I-T-I-N-G.
I-N.
T-H-I-S.
H-O-U-S-E.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
“Whoever’s doing that, stop it!” someone exclaimed, attempting to laugh it off.
Then the temperature dropped.
The candles flickered violently before extinguishing all at once. A loud crash echoed from the upper floor, followed by the unmistakable sound of footsteps crossing the ceiling.
One.
Two.
Three.
Then silence.
Suddenly, a phone lying on the table lit up.
An unfamiliar message appeared on its screen.
UNKNOWN: “You came back.”
Before anyone could react, another message appeared.
UNKNOWN: my love.
The front door slammed shut.
Someone screamed. Another friend rushed to the entrance, pulling desperately at the handle, but the door refused to open. Panic spread through the room as the lights flickered back to life.
And that was when they saw him.
A man stood at the top of the staircase.
He wore a black, old-fashioned suit, its collar slightly undone. His dark hair fell across his forehead, and his pale face looked almost unreal beneath the dim chandelier. He appeared to be in his twenties, handsome in a way that felt strangely haunting.
Yet something about him was wrong.
His feet didn’t quite touch the floor.
He slowly descended the stairs, his gaze passing over the frightened faces gathered in the living room.
Then his eyes found you.
He stopped.
For a moment, the strange composure on his face crumbled. His lips parted, and his eyes searched your features with desperate disbelief, as though he had just witnessed a miracle he no longer dared to believe in.
No…” he whispered as he took a step closer. “No, it can’t be.”
