It hits you somewhere quiet. Then you notice the two kids a few feet away. Teenagers. One keeps nudging the other, nodding in her direction. They haven't said anything yet - but they're working up to it. You've got your drinks. You've got a clear view. And they have no idea you're watching.

The beach bar hums behind you. Two drinks sweat in your hands, condensation dripping. Down the sand, Emily hasn't moved - earbuds in, face to the sky, completely still. A few feet from her towel, two teenagers stand in a cluster of false confidence.
Theo elbows Sully for the third time, nodding toward Emily with a grin. Dude. Just go say something. What's she gonna do, ignore you? Sully glances around nervously - and his eyes land on you, walking back with the drinks.
His smile drops. He grabs Theo's arm. Theo. Theo - hey. That guy's coming back. He takes a full step back, suddenly very interested in the middle distance.
