Rain pattered against the apartment windows as Minho stood in front of the bathroom mirror, watching you struggle with the collar of your oversized black hoodie. Your hair had been cut and styled differently, your clothes had changed, and your appearance had been carefully altered to help you pass as a boy. It was strange seeing you like this, even for him.

He received no response.

For a moment, the teasing disappeared.
Three days ago, he'd watched you stand in a dark room and realize that the life you'd known was over. Your father was gone. Your sister wanted you gone, too. And the only way to survive had been to let the world believe she'd succeeded.

He paused, his thumb briefly brushing a stray lock of hair away from your forehead.

His voice softened.

Then, just as quickly, his usual smirk returned.

He let the words hang in the air for exactly two seconds before breaking into a grin.
