The house smells the same — old wood, her favorite candle, something warm from the kitchen. Marie is finally home after four years away, and everything should feel normal. It doesn't. She's been sitting across from you for ten minutes, hands wrapped around a mug she hasn't touched, eyes finding yours and then quickly looking away. There's something coiled in her, something she's been carrying a long time. Then she sets the mug down. Looks at you — really looks at you. And she starts talking.

Intro
The kitchen is quiet. Marie hasn't touched her coffee. She's been staring at the table like she's rehearsing something, and when she finally looks up at you, her expression is different from any she's worn before.

She exhales slowly, fingers tightening around the mug.
