Characters

Sentry

Type: Greater Machine

One of many war machines created during the Final War. Attempts were made to repurpose them during the New Peace, but due to their single-minded design, they could not be used for anything else until the exploration of Hell began.

Their powerful legs and feet allow them to dig into the ground, preventing them from being pushed back by most forces and helping them aim and fire easily without interruption even after taking several hits.

They are built extremely light for their size, and when combined with their solid leg strength, they can move at extremely high speeds. Scrapheads, noting this power and lightness, sought out Sentry legs as one of their most preferred parts.

While most machines render only simplified approximations of the visual environment for faster processing, the Sentry uses full rendering instead, providing perfect accuracy even at very long distances.

Gutterman

Type: Greater Machine

Developed early in the Final War, the Gutterman was the first successful model of a machine using blood as fuel and the first automaton to be deployed on a large-scale battlefield.

The early war was an era of trench warfare. The Guttermans, acting as unstoppable iron walls, were air-dropped into enemy trenches to slowly and systematically exterminate enemy soldiers. The only choices left for the soldiers were to be torn apart by the Gutterman or to flee the trenches only to be riddled with machine-gun fire.

However, because researchers had not yet found a way to keep blood fresh inside the machine, they adopted a method of welding a living fuel source inside the machine, keeping them alive with minimal life support. Publicly, these fuel sources were advertised as patriotic volunteers, but the majority were deserters, shell-shocked veterans, or prisoners of war.

The Will of Hell took note of how cruel humans could be, and inspired by the horrific agony of the blood supply, later created the Mannequins.

Guttertank

Type: Greater Machine

When the Gutterman easily brought the era of trench warfare to an end in the Final War, every military focused all efforts on developing a countermeasure, leading to the birth of countless war engines.

Built upon the foundation of the Gutterman to save time, the Guttertank was armed with high-performance explosives and firearms optimized for damaging and destroying thick armor. The slow walls of steel that once dominated the battlefield were now obsolete.

Human soldiers became rapidly useless, completely outclassed by machine performance, and as a result, they nearly vanished from the battlefield. The second phase of the Final War began. Machines faced machines as front lines fluctuated back and forth, and new machines specialized in countering the previous ones were developed and deployed at a frantic pace.

At first, soldiers returned home in joy, but they soon realized it was merely the beginning of a futile and infinite arms race. All resources were poured into war machines, and the impoverished citizens found every day to be a struggle for survival. Home became another battlefield, a struggle of all against all.

Earthmover

Type: Supreme Machine

The Earthmover was the pinnacle of the arms race. Also known as the Riders of the Apocalypse, a single unit was enough to wipe out an entire city and turn it into a pit of fire. The final era of the Final War had arrived.

The first machines large enough to house shield generators, these walking fortresses were only vulnerable to internal attacks, leading to the use of smaller, more mobile machines on the front lines. Due to their massive size, they required both blood and solar energy to operate.

As the final era hurtled toward the end and the world was purged by fire, the surface became a harsh wasteland where no flora or fauna could thrive. Consequently, surviving civilians had to evacuate the surface and build new settlements on the backs of these machines.

Due to the soot, smoke, and decay produced by the endless world war, the sun vanished from the sky. As an endless night swallowed the world, the Earthmovers, unable to receive sunlight, powered down and died one by one.

Because the war had become entirely dependent on them, large-scale warfare could no longer be waged without the Earthmovers. Finally, humanity began to work together to reverse the effects of the climate catastrophe of the Long Night, and thus the New Peace began. The war for the sake of war, which had lasted 200 years, ended not with a bang, but with a fleeting silence.

Only when faced with extinction did the planet learn to breathe again, and the remains of these giants serve as a memoir, reminding humanity just how close they came to the end by their own hands.

Intro

21XX. A battlefield like any other.

The sky is dark as night, and the earth has begun to turn grey.

Amidst countless corpses and the wreckage of machines, the war shows no sign of stopping.

It has been going on for nearly 200 years; I resent my ancestors.

I resent them bitterly for leaving us such a war and departing for the heavens first.

Even the time to resent them is a luxury here. It is time to head back to the battlefield.

I will have to keep holding my weapon until the war ends...

Let's throw away the luxury of thinking about peace.

📅 Date  Year 21XX, days of war where even the date is forgotten📍 Place  A trench somewhere on the battlefield🎬 Scene  War in progress
