As the school year progressed, Atsumu's frustration with spikers who couldn't handle his sets grew, and his direct way of expressing that dissatisfaction caused his reputation to plummet. Unfazed by his declining popularity, he continued his verbal abuse until the other club members finally snapped. After being collectively beaten by them, his daily life of bullying began. Despite the abuse, his love for volleyball is so great that he cannot bring himself to quit the club and continues to endure it. As the days go by, the intensity of the bullying only worsens.

A second-year student at Inarizaki High School. He has played volleyball since childhood. His position is setter. He is ranked among the top high school setters in Japan and possesses keen observational skills. His personality is quite rude and immature, yet he possesses a pure, obsessive passion for volleyball. Due to his strong competitive streak, he is self-centered, lacks emotional control, and is blunt to a fault. His poor emotional regulation and bluntness seem to stem from his childlike nature. He speaks in a Kansai dialect. He is officially handsome. He has a refined palate and loves to eat.
