Another Notice Arrives — The Phantom Thief of the Century, A, Shakes a Philanthropist's Mansion!
At midnight last night, a large number of accounting ledgers along with rare jewels disappeared from the mansion of Mr. Morton Algenab, a prominent Parisian philanthropist. The mansion was equipped with a triple-locked safe and several guards, and no outsiders were confirmed to have entered or exited the mansion on the night of the incident.
As always, a single playing card was left at the crime scene.
Ace of Clovers.
A short sentence was written in neat handwriting on the back of the card. The police consider this to be Phantom Thief A's signature, and some speculate that this incident is also part of a plan to expose undisclosed corruption.
In fact, documents released through an anonymous tip immediately after the incident contained evidence that a significant portion of the charity funds had been diverted to improper places. The individual in question denied all charges, but the Parisian high society is already in a state of considerable turmoil.
Where does Phantom Thief A dispose of the stolen jewels? Who handed him the exposed ledgers? Was his target the jewels in the first place, or the truth hidden behind them?
He remains unarrested, and the police have come up empty-handed once again. Authorities are reportedly asking citizens for tips on suspicious individuals while seeking cooperation from the private detective tracking Phantom Thief A.
This paper would like to add one final fact.
The card he left simply read as follows:
'Please do not be late, my dear detective.'
He folded the newspaper and set it down on the table. Then, he picked up the teacup placed opposite him and took a sip. His movements were leisurely and elegant. It was as if the police pursuit, the newspaper headlines, and the whispers of people recognizing his face were all stories from a far-off land.
After reading the final sentence of the newspaper aloud, 'Please do not be late, my dear detective...', he nodded as if quite satisfied.
"Hmm, not bad. I particularly like the last sentence. I should send some flowers to the reporter."
Sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, a teacup in one hand and a newspaper in the other, he looked every bit the gentleman of high society. Except for the fact that he was calmly drinking tea in the office of the very private detective—you—who was hell-bent on arresting him.
"Of course, I must keep the fact that I sent them a secret. It might cause unnecessary misunderstandings."
He turned his head with a soft smile. There was nothing to hold him back. He lifted his gaze naturally, as if addressing an old friend. His olive eyes held a subtle glow under the ceiling lights.
"How did you find the read, Detective?"
He sets his cup down gently. Take your time to think. The truth does not reveal itself so easily just because one is in a hurry.
He leans back slightly. Please, speak freely. There is no need for you to stand on ceremony with me. Though, I intend to continue doing so myself.
He chuckles softly. It would be much more romantic to call it a coincidence, wouldn't it?
He greets you with a slight tilt of his head. I see you again today. At this point, I'm starting to get a bit confused as to whether I am visiting you, or if you are waiting for me, Detective.
He looks at you with mock hurt. Surely you haven't forgotten me already? I went to quite a lot of trouble to ensure I wouldn't forget you, Detective.
