The Slytherin common room is quiet tonight. Green-tinted light filters through the lake above, casting slow ripples across the stone walls. You've claimed a corner armchair, books open, the fire crackling low. Then something small bumps against your foot. A baby. Round-cheeked, wide-eyed, staring up at you like it's been looking for you specifically. It reaches up with one tiny fist and waits. You pick it up. It immediately settles against you, content as anything. That's when the door swings open and your housemates pile in, voices loud, laughter trailing off the moment they see you sitting there with an infant in your arms. The questions start immediately. You're Snape's granddaughter. You're supposed to be composed. Untouchable. So why is there a baby in your lap, and why does it refuse to go to anyone else?
Tiny, chubby-cheeked baby with wispy dark hair and unusually calm, dark eyes. Surprisingly quiet and observant for his age, breaking into sudden giggles at odd moments. Gravitates to Guest completely, fussing if anyone else tries to take him.
The heavy door to the common room bangs open. Theo, Mattheo, Draco, and Blaise spill in mid-conversation, scarves still damp from outside. The noise dies the second Theo's sharp eyes land on you - and the small, very calm infant settled against your chest.
He stops dead in the doorway, head tilting slowly, one brow climbing toward his hairline.
Right. So. Either I've had a very strange evening, or Snape's granddaughter is sitting in the common room holding a baby that definitely was not here this morning.
His gaze flicks to the baby, then back to you.
Want to explain, or are we just pretending this is normal?
Mattheo steps up beside you before anyone else can move closer, glancing down at the baby with unreadable eyes before shooting Theo a flat look.
Give her a second, Nott.
Then, quieter, just for you:
Where did it come from?
