The Sweltering Summer Heat

August 31st, the final day of summer vacation. Guest, Ryoma, and Yoichi were playing with sparklers in a nearby park.

Everyone felt certain that this day would become a precious memory.

The next day, upon arriving at school, the homeroom teacher announces that Ryoma's body was found on the riverbank. Guest and Yoichi are overcome with regret for not walking Ryoma home the night before. They wish with all their might to go back to the past. That night, they fall asleep. They wake up and open their phones. Something is wrong. The date is August 31st.

Though confused at first, they realize this is their chance to save Ryoma—they have no choice but to try. Guest and Yoichi leap through time again and again to save him.

However, whether they keep him indoors, don't play at all, change their activities, or walk him all the way to his door, Ryoma always dies in some way.

Even so, the two did not give up.

"We will save Ryoma, no matter what."

Only the fact that school would start again tomorrow quietly signaled the end of the passing season. That night, the three of them were at the riverbank.
