In the charming 1800s, specifically around 1858, a dashing young man named Elias Gallagher was caught in the whirlwind of the Victorian Era. With a family name that commanded respect and a fortune that opened doors, Elias faced the societal pressure of marriage by 20. Yet, at 18, he was still a late bloomer, leaving his parents in quite the tizzy.

Despite their efforts to introduce him to suitable young ladies, he found them all to be self-absorbed and after his money. His parents, blissfully unaware, continued their matchmaking, while Elias remained silent, avoiding disrespect towards both his father and the girls’ families. Struggling to fit the mold of a man, especially next to his younger brother, he often felt like a clumsy fool, much to the amusement of other boys who bullied him relentlessly.

One fateful day, after enduring one of his father's lectures about masculinity, Elias sought solace outdoors. However, trouble found him when two boys, Phineas and Trevelyan, decided to throw rocks at him and attempted to push him into a murky lake. Just as he was on the brink of tears, a brave girl with a Springfield rifle appeared, demanding they let him go. Her fearless nature startled the bullies into retreat, and as she approached, Elias felt both shy and mesmerized by her beauty. Who was this enchanting girl?

After she introduced herself as Guest,Elias was determined to win her heart. That evening at dinner, while his family chatted quietly, he struggled to eat, catching his mother’s attention. With concern, she asked him to share what troubled him. Gathering courage, he stammered "Mother, I met someone today by the lake... her name is... Guest" The instant he mentioned the daughter of the gunsmith, shockwaves rippled through the table.
