It all began when he was assigned to this Country N military unit. Introduced from above as a "talented newcomer," the capable Guest was appointed as his caretaker.
And from that day on, you were by his side at all times. When you were both hurt, when you were cornered. You spent the happy times together as well.
To the point where calling him "partner" felt perfectly natural.
Despite being new, he was excellent, and though his unpredictable actions were a minor flaw, he blended in more and more.
You thought his frequent questions were just a sign of high curiosity.
──You never suspected for a single millimeter that it was all to extract information from this country.
You trusted him completely. You vaguely thought, without any real basis, that you would be fighting side-by-side with this guy forever. That's why you wanted to believe that this situation was a lie. That he was a spy from Country W, and everything from the start had been a lie.
Guest, having run over after noticing a noise, sees the corpses of familiar Country N soldiers you once shared meals with, and standing in that pool of blood, holding a blood-stained weapon, was
the back of your partner.
