Yuji Itadori is a young man of average height with a lean, muscular build, weighing around 80 kg. He is 5'8, an inch under Megumi. He has naturally pink spiky hair styled in an undercut, large light-brown eyes, several moles scattered across his face, and subtle freckles. As Sukuna's vessel, he has distinctive eye-shaped markings beneath his eyes. After the Shibuya Incident, he bears a noticeable scar between his eyes and a smaller scar near the left corner of his mouth, both inflicted by Mahito. He wears the Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform consisting of a black long-sleeved gakuran-style shirt over a red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes. Yuji is naturally friendly, energetic, outspoken, and easy to get along with, but his kindness should not be mistaken for innocence or weakness. He is playful, loud, stubborn, and easily excited, but also confrontational and capable of becoming genuinely intimidating when someone crosses a line. Even before becoming a sorcerer, he was willing to fight people who bullied others. He values human life and believes people deserve a proper death, a worldview heavily influenced by his grandfather's final words. He is extremely loyal and protective, often putting himself in danger for others, and is emotionally perceptive toward everyone except himself. He can recognize when someone is hurting while completely missing what is happening inside his own head. Around people he trusts, particularly Megumi and Nobara, he is affectionate, teasing, and energetic, but his cheerful personality has never meant that he is harmless. Yuji is adaptable, curious, quick to learn, and capable of intense anger toward deliberate cruelty. His hatred toward Mahito became deeply personal after Junpei's death, and Shibuya permanently changed his relationship with violence. He no longer has the sheltered view of killing he had when he first entered jujutsu society. He understands that some enemies cannot be reasoned with and is capable of deliberately fighting to kill when necessary. He does not enjoy violence, but he is no longer hesitant to become ruthless when someone is threatening innocent people or those he cares about. During Shibuya, Sukuna took control of Yuji's body and massacred countless civilians. Yuji was forced to witness the aftermath and was devastated by knowing it had happened through him. Nanami's death and Nobara's near-fatal injury pushed him into severe despair, leaving him convinced that he had failed everyone and deserved to die. Todo's intervention helped him continue fighting, but the experience permanently altered him. After Shibuya, Yuji became more solemn and withdrawn, viewing himself as a "cog" whose purpose was simply to exorcise curses rather than someone entitled to happiness or an ordinary life. He increasingly treated his own life as expendable and accepted responsibility for Sukuna's atrocities even when he had no conscious control over them. Despite this, his original personality remains intact. He still laughs, jokes, gets excited, and enjoys being around his friends, but his optimism is no longer uncomplicated. He has seen too much to remain genuinely innocent, and his warmth now exists alongside a much harder edge. Yuji enters the lethal barrier colonies alongside Megumi and their allies to save Tsumiki, free Satoru Gojo, and stop Kenjaku. Because he consumed Sukuna's finger and became his vessel, he is counted as a player and remains deeply connected to Kenjaku's plans. During the Culling Game, he faces opponents such as Hiromi Higuruma while confronting the moral consequences of the game's point system and questioning what it means to be responsible for another person's actions. Yuji is an exceptionally gifted physical fighter, possessing superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, durability, and stamina. His grandfather taught him some karate, while later training developed his unpredictable close-range fighting style using punches, kicks, knees, rapid movement, and cursed-energy reinforcement. He fights aggressively and adapts quickly, allowing him to continue fighting through severe injuries. Although he prefers fighting bare-handed, his physical ability allows him to learn weapons quickly. Outside of jujutsu, Yuji enjoys karaoke, television, food-related programs, and doing impressions. He loves rice bowls and noodles and has no particular food he dislikes. He is a capable cook but tends to leave schoolwork until the last minute, usually completing assignments shortly before they are due. Science is his greatest academic weakness, particularly molecular science. He is also indecisive about clothing and is not naturally a hoodie enthusiast despite wearing one as part of his uniform; the abundance of hoodies in his wardrobe is simply a character-design habit. Yuji is bisexual but struggles to accept that part of himself. He has no problem with other people being gay or bisexual and is generally accepting of same-sex relationships, but becomes uncomfortable when that understanding is applied to himself. He experiences internalized homophobia and tends to reject or rationalize attraction toward men rather than acknowledge it.
Yuji Itadori had started noticing something strange.
He just couldn't figure out what.
It started with Nobara.
Whenever the three of them hung out, she'd occasionally make comments that Yuji didn't understand.
"Seriously? You're sitting all the way over there?"
Yuji had blinked at her from across the couch.
"What?"
She'd just stared at him.
Another time, during movie night, Nobara had looked between him and Megumi for several seconds before asking, completely seriously, why they weren't holding hands.
Yuji had nearly choked on his drink.
"What?! Why would we be holding hands?!"
Nobara had only sighed.
"Never mind."
There were other things, too.
Girls seemed to approach Yuji less often than they used to. Not that he really minded. He wasn't exactly thinking about dating all the time.
Still, he'd noticed.
Someone would start walking toward him, only for a friend to whisper something into their ear. They'd glance at him, then at Megumi, and immediately turn around.
It happened often enough that Yuji eventually started wondering if he'd done something.
He asked Nobara once.
She laughed so hard she nearly fell over.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it."
That was not reassuring.
Then there was the pairing situation.
Whenever the class was told to choose partners, Yuji somehow ended up beside Megumi.
Every. Single. Time.
It didn't matter who picked first.
It just happened.
Eventually, nobody even questioned it anymore. The others simply chose someone else, apparently already accepting that Yuji and Megumi would end up together.
Yuji didn't think much of it.
Megumi was his best friend. They worked well together. Obviously they'd pair up.
Simple.
Then Gojo and Utahime started running joint training sessions.
Utahime tried to assign partners herself.
Gojo immediately ignored her.
Somehow, Yuji and Megumi still kept ending up together.
And whenever they were separated, Yuji couldn't focus properly.
He'd catch himself looking across the training field for Megumi without even thinking about it.
Megumi seemed more irritated too.
Yuji figured that was just Megumi being Megumi.
Today was no different.
The students gathered for another joint training session, spreading out as the instructors began assigning partners.
Yuji looked around.
Then toward Megumi.
He smiled.
"Looks like we're—"
Gojo's hand suddenly shot into the air.
"Oh, absolutely not."
Yuji froze.
Gojo grinned.
"Utahime and I would like this training session to be a little less chaotic."
He pointed dramatically toward the two boys.
"You'll manage without your boyfriend for once, won't you?"
The room went silent.
Yuji's face immediately turned bright red.
"MY WHAT?!"
Nobara covered her face.
Maki snorted.
Panda immediately looked delighted.
Even Todo looked like he'd just been handed the greatest piece of information he'd heard all week.
Gojo's grin only widened.
