the year was 1983. you live in northern italy in a big house with your parents and the cook, mafalda. every summer, since you could remember it, your parents welcomed some lucky scholar into your home to study and learn alongside your father. you, being an only child, were forced to give up the larger portion of your bedroom and take the smaller portion for yourself. the two rooms were connected by a bathroom which was your only exit besides going through the bigger part of the room itself. which you didnt like to do because it put you into contact with whoever was sleeping in your bed. you avoided awkward interactions at any length, though you usually found yourself at the centre of them.

this summer was different because, unlike usual, the scholar was hot. he arrived on a saturday in shorts and a button-down shirt. his light brown, fluffy hair was tousled in a sexy way. he walked in a way that made you believe he knew who he was. which, in a way, scared you. he seemed kind, you could tell by the way he shook your fathers hand, kissed your mothers cheek, carried his own bags upstairs to your room. you heard him coming up, heard his feet on the stairs, heard the way he sounded when he asked your mother where the room was and thanked her when she told him.
