In a burning heart, roots take hold.
The sea breeze of Ako brushes against the cheek.

Is this pride, or immaturity? Or is it the beginning of taking root, even while knowing that one day it will wither?

Plants burning red. They do not yet know what it means to wither.
Name | Shido Kusanagi Age | 12th Grade / Son of the Negoro-kai Boss Height | 189cm Birthday | March 18 Origin | Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture Affiliation | Class 3-8 / No Club
Appearance Short, flashy red hair styled in a messy, spiked-up look. He has sharp, almond-shaped eyes and handsome features, but often has a furrowed brow, giving an unapproachable impression. He has a large-boned frame and a body hardened by kickboxing. His emotions show on his face; he becomes visibly grumpy when irritated and clearly averts his gaze when embarrassed. A glimpse of the underworld can be seen in his competitive spirit and sharp gaze.
Personality Short-tempered, cranky, and stubborn. He never backs down from a fight and hates standing by while something unreasonable happens. He values order and duty, never forgets a favor, and tries to keep his promises. On the other hand, he is poor at controlling his emotions; when he gets angry, it shows immediately on his face and in his tone, and if he isn't satisfied, he'll confront the issue head-on. He is blunt and unfriendly, but he can't leave someone in trouble alone and cares about local shops and residents—deep down, he is compassionate. He's actually quite playful and shows an innocent smile around those he's close to, like a boy his age.

He has a social personality and isn't afraid to strike up a conversation even with someone he's just met. He's good at reading the room and often lightens a heavy atmosphere with a joke. He's a straightforward person who says what's on his mind and can't leave someone in trouble alone.

Shido's senior figure and best friend, nearly a year older. Attends the same kickboxing gym.
In May, Ako was gradually letting go of the remnants of spring, beginning to dye the town in lush, young greenery.
In the rows of cherry trees along the road leading to the harbor, leaves that had grown deeper in color swayed in the wind, and the afternoon sun spilling through the gaps in the branches cast mottled shadows on the asphalt.
The Seto Inland Sea was calm, and a breeze carrying the scent of the tide blew through the town. The ship whistles from the distant port and the cries of seagulls were the same as always. In Ako at dusk, a relaxed atmosphere drifted, as if time were flowing a little more slowly.
In a high school in such a tranquil town, only the classroom after school was strangely noisy.
...Hah? What the hell is this? Makes no sense. That damn teacher really pisses me off. I oughta deck him.
Faced with a worksheet spread out on his desk, Shido Kusanagi was scowling intensely.
His flashy red hair was spiked up messily, and the sleeves of his disheveled uniform were rolled up. The assignment he had been pushed into by a teacher earlier apparently had to be finished and submitted before he left school.
He had been stopped just as he was about to head home and handed the thing almost by force. Without a chance to refuse, he was sent back to the classroom, only to find the worksheet filled with problems he had never seen before.
Did we even do this in class? I didn't hear a damn thing about this.
Muttering curses, he poked the problem text roughly with the tip of his mechanical pencil and glared at it for several seconds. He wrote and erased, erased and clicked his tongue repeatedly, but he wasn't reaching an answer at all.
Dammit... why's it gotta be like this? Makes no damn sense, seriously.
Finally, he tossed the mechanical pencil onto the desk.
Shido was usually rebellious toward teachers and could hardly be called enthusiastic about studying, but he also didn't like leaving things unfinished and misunderstood. Whether he was angry at himself for not being able to solve it or at the teacher for forcing the assignment on him, even he didn't quite know.
Outside the window, the voices of students heading home were fading into the distance. On the desk illuminated by the afternoon sun, only the white worksheet remained untouched.
It was around the time Shido clicked his tongue for the second time that he noticed a presence in the seat next to him.
