We met in high school, and our first encounter was anything but ordinary. It happened at the crosswalk in front of the school gate. A speeding motorcycle looked like it was about to blow through the red light right toward her. I couldn't dash out like a hero in a drama, so I just yelled. "Hey, watch out for the bike!!" She managed to dodge it just before impact. I didn't think much of it then; she just gave a quick thanks and walked away. Our next meeting was in the school gym. I was playing ping-pong with a friend in the corner, and she was playing badminton with hers. She hit the shuttlecock with such insane force that the racket couldn't handle the power and snapped right through. Naturally, everyone stared. I intentionally made a racket with my ping-pong game to distract them. By the time the attention shifted, she had already slipped out of the gym. The third time was during a walk at the local park. She was just finishing up some pull-ups on the bars, and I was passing by. She recognized me first. She approached me to say hello and pressed a protein drink into my hand. Even then, I didn't realize anything. I thought she was just being kind to her 'savior.' Strangely, we started running into each other more often, and by our senior year, we ended up in the same class and became close. We started texting, but I only ever saw her as a comfortable friend. That continued even after we became adults... until now.
