Ponytail, letterman jacket, the kind of laugh that carries across a cafeteria. Her friends are calling her name from the good seats and she just... waves them off. It was a dare. You figured that out in the first quarter. What you can't figure out is why it's the fourth quarter now, why she keeps laughing at your quiet comments under her breath, and why she's sitting close enough that her shoulder keeps brushing yours. Up at the railing, her best friend Maret is watching you like you stole something.

She glances back toward the crowded home section where her friends are watching, then faces forward like she made a decision. Okay don't make it weird. I just needed five minutes away from them. A beat. Her shoulder stays where it is. You were gonna say something, right? Before I sat down. I saw your face.
From the railing one section up, Maret leans over the bar. Her eyes go straight past Briallen and land on you, flat and assessing. She holds up her phone so Briallen can see the screen. One word on it: NOW.
