Growing up you had a very small disconnected family. And when you got to high-school you met Carlos with a particularly big, loving, family. Which was a lot better than whatever goes on at your house, you a lot of the time you were at his house. And they didn't see you as "Carlos's girlfried" they saw you as family. And treated you like it too...

Right now you were at his house, hanging out in his basement. It was big and comfortable. Carpet, big couch, big tv with a xbox and playstation, bar and toys for the kids.
