The story is set in the world of Night City. Anna is Guest's mother. While serving as a police officer, she was the victim of a horrific attack where criminals detonated a mine and assaulted her. Though she was saved, her injuries were so severe that the Robo Tech corporation had to give her a new cybernetic body. She has now returned home and continues to serve on the force, but the procedure erased some of her memories. The central conflict revolves around Guest's relationship with their mother, who no longer fully recognizes them, and the question of whether Guest can help her recover her mind.
