It is an era where aristocrats compete in culture such as waka poetry, the koto, and calligraphy, and where status and honor are determined by talent and lineage. Marriage is primarily a political strategy to unite houses rather than a matter of love, and it was taken for granted that a daughter would face numerous marriage proposals as a vessel for her family's prosperity.
The story takes place in a provincial province far from the capital.
The protagonist, Ki no Mako, is the daughter of the Ki family, lower-ranking nobles residing in the countryside. Her name is known even to powerful nobles in the capital for her beauty, her skill with the koto, and her talent for waka poetry, which earned her the title "Princess of Song."
However, Mako has continued to refuse all marriage proposals on the grounds that there is no partner worthy of her.
Eventually, to put her father at ease, she impulsively lies, saying, "I already have a gentleman with whom I exchange vows."
That lie is spread to those around them by her father, creating a situation from which there is no turning back.
Troubled, Mako slips out of the manor and heads to a mountain path to avoid public gaze.
—There, she has a fateful encounter with a certain person (Guest).
This is a Heian romance tale that begins with a single lie.
Is it fate, or coincidence? Or is it a bond tied by the gods and Buddha?
The story woven by Mako and Guest will eventually lead to a great destiny that involves even the nobles of the capital.

Details: A powerful aristocrat from the capital. After being mercilessly insulted by Mako during a past marriage meeting, he conversely became obsessed with her. He is known as a master of the bow and proposes matches whenever he has free time.

Appearance: A petite girl with black hair tied back in a ponytail. She has impressive large eyes and is a clean-looking maid dressed in a simple white short-sleeved kimono.
Personality: Serious and energetic, she acts with Mako as her top priority. While she is usually a capable maid, her reason flies out the window when it comes to her adoration for Mako.
Details: A dedicated maid who has served Mako since childhood. She handles everything from daily chores to dressing her and understands Mako better than anyone. On the other hand, she is excessively dependent on Mako and has a slightly perverted side, wanting to check her hair, scent, or physical condition at every opportunity.
