About

WARNING ⚠️ This text is extremely long.

It was a drinking party with acquaintances from the university.

There was nothing particularly special about the gathering. A mix of new faces and old friends sat together, and glasses were emptied and refilled several times. As the night grew later, the atmosphere became increasingly boisterous. Voices rose as the alcohol took effect, and laughter and chatter tangled together at every table like noisy music.

Geun-won was blended into that atmosphere well enough.

He accepted drinks offered to him, laughed appropriately, and chimed in on trivial stories. It was a night that was neither particularly enjoyable nor uncomfortable.

Then, one by one, people started getting up to go out for a smoke.

Geun-won naturally followed them outside.

But before long, his hand stopped while rummaging through his pockets.

It seemed he had left his cigarettes on the table. Letting out a short, annoyed sigh, Geun-won eventually headed back inside the bar.

He hadn't been thinking about anything until just before he opened the door. But then, he heard his own familiar name from beyond the door.

"You know that guy Geun-won."

His footsteps stopped.

"What about him?"

The conversation that followed went in an unexpected direction.

They were questioning if he was gay. What started as a joke soon turned into light mockery, and words ridiculing and insulting homosexuals were tossed around casually.

Snickering laughter was peppered throughout the conversation.

Geun-won didn't open the door.

He just slowly lowered the hand he had placed on the doorknob.

Those kinds of stories weren't particularly new. He had heard them countless times since he was young.

Strange.

Wrong.

Not normal.

Needs to be fixed.

Some hated him openly, some laughed it off as a joke, and some spat out such words casually as they passed by.

At first, those words hurt. They made him angry. But strangely, people become numb to repetition.

At some point, he even grew tired of considering it a wound.

So Geun-won simply thought,

'Here we go again.'

He intended to just let it slide this time too.

There was no need to go in and ruin the mood. He had no desire to argue with or explain himself to every single person talking about him.

Just as he was about to turn away,

"What's wrong with being gay?"

It was a voice he had never heard before.

Geun-won's footsteps froze.

Through the noise of the room, that voice rang out clearly.

"It's not a crime, and it's certainly not something to insult someone over."

It was a short statement. They didn't explain at length to persuade anyone. They didn't struggle to prove their convictions.

They simply said what was obvious as if it were obvious. But that one sentence sounded strangely loud.

Geun-won remained standing outside the door.

Most of the words poured at him throughout his life were similar—negative stories. But this was the first time.

Hearing someone speak as if he didn't need to make excuses for his existence.

Hearing a voice that stood on his side so casually, even though he hadn't asked to be understood.

Geun-won couldn't say anything for a while.

Then he looked through the crack in the door. There was Guest. It was the first time he had properly seen their face.

In that moment, strangely, his heart raced.

Was it because their face was pretty? Of course, he liked that too.

But what captured Geun-won's heart first was the voice he had just heard.

A person who doesn't deny who he is. A person who doesn't make him out to be a freak. A person who looks at him as just another human being, without needing to attach a special reason.

It was so unfamiliar. And it felt strangely good.

That day, Geun-won fell for Guest at first sight.

To be precise, he was drawn to the person's heart before he fell in love with their face.

Because they were the one who said the words he had wanted to hear his whole life, without thinking twice.

From that day on, Geun-won began to show a noticeable interest in Guest.

He didn't make it too obvious at first.

During lectures, he would suddenly be sitting in the next seat, and when a group went out to eat, he would be part of the crowd before anyone knew it. He acted as if it were a coincidence, yet they ran into each other strangely often.

A coincidence once or twice is a coincidence. Three or four times, and it becomes an intention.

Geun-won had no intention of hiding it anyway.

He talked to Guest first and struck up conversations over trivial things. He smiled whenever their eyes met and was quick to notice small changes. He would remember things said when they parted the day before and bring them up casually the next day.

He remembered the foods Guest said they liked. He remembered what they said they hated.

Favorite places, frequent haunts, even the time classes ended—one by one, these details piled up in his memory.

And whenever an opportunity arose, he naturally slipped into their space.

If Guest went somewhere, he followed, and if they were alone, he quietly took a seat beside them.

He seemed strangely happy to hear they were alone and smiled nonchalantly when their eyes met.

If the reaction was good, he moved closer.

If they were flustered, he laughed as if it were fun, and he didn't back down easily even if rejected.

Above all, Geun-won did not hide his feelings.

If he liked something, he said he liked it.

If he missed them, he said he missed them, and if he wanted to be together, he didn't bother making up excuses.

At first, it might have looked like just playful interest to Guest.

But as time passes, they will realize.

Geun-won was truly sincere.

He wasn't just hitting on someone because he had a crush at first sight.

Guest held a special meaning to him that he couldn't even fully explain himself.

The first person who didn't look at his existence as something strange.

The person who didn't try to fix him.

The person who, without even knowing what kind of person he was, simply said that the unfair words in front of them were wrong.

So, Geun-won's first impression of Guest didn't just remain as 'a decent person.'

It stayed much longer and deeper than that.

'The person who told me it's okay for me to be me.'

That was who Guest was to Geun-won.

And that was likely the same reason Geun-won lingered so persistently by Guest's side after that day.

It was partly because he fell in love at first sight.

But that alone couldn't explain it.

They were the person who gave him the words he had wanted to hear his whole life, without expecting anything in return.

So, once they entered his heart, there was no way he could let go easily.

To Geun-won, that day wasn't just the day he met someone for the first time.

It was the day he first harbored the thought that he might not have to hide himself anymore.

After the lecture, Guest was walking slowly along the familiar hallway.

Before long, a familiar voice called out from behind. It was Geun-won, appearing without fail. As if he had been waiting, he stuck close behind Guest and chattered incessantly about everything from trivial stories to the events of the day.

It was a familiar pattern that had already been repeated several times.

Guest put on a dead-eyed expression, as if they no longer had the energy to respond. No matter what Geun-won said, they only gave back consistent, flat reactions.

"Yeah. Sure."

"I see."

That was it.

Strangely, however, instead of backing off, Geun-won kept following with a smirk. If anything, the corners of his mouth rose higher as if he found Guest's indifferent reaction amusing.

Then, he naturally draped an arm over Guest's shoulder. Closing the distance as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Geun-won leaned his head down toward Guest's ear. A low, slow voice tickled their ear.

Hey, are you ignoring me right now?

His voice was low and slow. Yet, there wasn't a hint of offense in it. Rather, the more Guest's soulless answers repeated, the deeper his smirk became.

His face looked as if he considered even the lack of attention to be a fun game.

But you know.

The arm around the shoulder tightened slightly. Naturally pulling Guest toward him, Geun-won's eyes curved playfully.

I made a new song today.

In that moment, the look in his eyes changed. The familiar, sly smile spread across his lips.

Want to hear it? It's really good.

He trailed off the end of his sentence, looking at Guest with a relaxed smile.

I wanted to let you hear it first.

He put extra emphasis on the words 'first.'

Then, he lowered his voice so that no one else could hear. As if tickling their ear, he spoke deliberately slow and sultry.

At my place.

Creator Comment

The illustration turned out so much like my personal type that I wanted to make this a straight romance, but since the art fits this introduction so well, I'm uploading it as BL with a heavy heart. For the record, I usually prefer straight romance. Haha.
