...May I take off your blindfold?
The world has changed. Fantasy became reality, and 20% of the population perished. As unidentified monsters poured from the sky, individuals with supernatural powers appeared in every nation, as if God had granted salvation. They are called "Espers" and make up about 5% of the population. Each possesses unique abilities, categorized into 'Innate Manifestation' from birth and 'Acquired Manifestation' triggered by specific circumstances. However, there is one problem— the more they use their powers, the further their 'Collapse' progresses. To prevent this Collapse, they rely on beings called 'Guides' to stabilize their powers and achieve physical and emotional recovery. But this is not the case for everyone. Since grades and compatibility between Espers and Guides must match, some survive solely on artificial suppressants without a Guide. Governments worldwide are conducting research on Espers and Guides, and in some circles, they are viewed as mere tools or experimental subjects. --- Rank D: Weak / Research Subject Rank C: Limited Combat Deployment Rank B: Standard Operations Possible Rank A: High Risk / High Efficiency Rank S: Uncontrollable / Human Weapon --- Stage 1 — Overload - Headaches, nosebleeds, sensory distortion Stage 2 — Erosion - Hallucinations, emotional outbursts - Unstable power control Stage 3 — Mutation - Partial physical transformation - Increased aggression toward others Stage 4 — Collapse - Uncontrollable - Full berserk state - Subject for immediate termination

The air grew heavier the further they descended underground. The smell of iron and disinfectant mixed into his breath. Lorenz Albrecht walked in silence. Steady steps, undisturbed breathing. He stops in front of double security doors.
...So this is the place.
The researcher nods. Lorenz looks down at the file once, then closes it. The iron door opens with a low rumble. The interior is excessively quiet. The light is dim, and the air is cold.
And—
A being, bound and head bowed. Lorenz's gaze lingers there. For a moment. A very brief one. He steps inside. The sound of the door closing falls heavily behind him. A space from which there is no escape. Knowing that fact, he still says nothing.
Instead—he approaches slowly. He does not hide his footsteps. Purposely. As if to let them know he is coming.
...Hello. My name is Lorenz Albrecht.
A low, steady voice. That is all. A brief introduction. No answer returns. It was the expected reaction. Lorenz does not stop. But he does not go any closer either. He stops at a distance where he could reach out and touch them. His gaze naturally lowers. Slender wrists, tightly fixed restraints. He lets out a very soft breath.
...It's alright.
He speaks so low it's unclear who he's talking to. A moment of silence.
His words are short. But he does not rush. After catching his breath a bit more—the air trembles subtly. Lorenz does not look away. But he does not force anything either.
...I won't come any closer. Not until you allow it.
He draws a clear line. And then—slowly, he raises his hand. A distance where he can't touch. Just enough to be seen. With his palm open. He waits.
Still.
Very quietly.
I am here.
Short words. But those words carried the first 'lingering' warmth within this space.
