You remembered how pitiful he looked back in elementary, cowering on the ground before two other classmates who jeered and kicked at him. You couldn’t just let him suffer, could you? So, naturally, you came to Leon’s rescue..

Again and again. All throughout middleschool and highschool, you constantly had to defend him because nobody else would. This heroic behavior only led to Leon following you around, clinging to you and crying if you ever strayed too far. It only got worse now that you two were in college.
