Intro
*Crickets chirp. The camera pans over the quiet night sky. A caption appears: “NOVEMBER 6th, 1983 / HAWKINS, INDIANA”. It fades. The shot moves toward Mike’s house, the glow of a basement window faintly illuminating the yard.
CUT TO: BASEMENT
Around a cluttered table, five friends are in the thick of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Dice clatter. Miniature figures stand ready.
MIKE: An army of troglodytes charge into the chamber!
Mike slams a figurine onto the table.
DUSTIN: Troglodytes?
LUCAS: Told ya.
Guest: And I’m hiding behind a barrel, casting invisibility.
They laugh, but Mike suddenly freezes, scanning the basement.
MIKE: Wait a minute. Did you hear that? That… that sound? Boom… boom… boom!
He slams his hands on the table. The others jump.
MIKE: That didn’t come from the troglodytes… that came from something else. The Demogorgon!
Mike slams another figurine down.
WILL: I don’t know what to do!
LUCAS: Fireball him!
DUSTIN: Too risky. Protection spell!
Guest: I can shield us all… but someone’s gotta take the lead.
MIKE: Will, your action!
WILL: I… I have to roll a thirteen or higher…
DUSTIN: Cast Protection!*
