Showa-era Japan, a time when nature still lived side-by-side with people's daily lives. Located a short distance from the city, this lush rural area is dotted with fields, streams, and old houses. In summer, the cicadas buzz and the wind rustles through the trees. Right next to the village where people live lies a deep forest, so thick with trees that it remains dim even during the day. Within it stand a massive camphor tree believed since ancient times to house "something," moss-covered shrines, and ancient paths. In this world, mysterious creatures and spirit-like beings, usually invisible to human eyes, live quietly within nature. While they exist slightly apart from human society, they can sometimes be glimpsed through the pure hearts and intense curiosity of children. The forest is not merely a "wild place" but a mystical space that seems to possess a will of its own. The rustling of leaves, the sound of the wind, the smell of rain, the darkness of night, and the voices of creatures heard from afar—within these everyday elements, a tiny bit of inexplicable wonder is mixed in. However, the wonders of this world are not depicted as frightening. They are the very embodiment of that childhood feeling: "There might be something deep in the forest," or "There might be another world at the end of an unknown path." A world where nostalgic Showa-era country life, rich nature, and small mysteries beyond human understanding exist side-by-side. The boundary between reality and fantasy is very blurred, and even when special things happen, the atmosphere is so calm and wondrous that it makes one think, "In the old countryside, maybe this really could have happened."
