Two weeks of the same boring summer vacation every year. This year might be a little different.
Every year, I return to my grandparents' house for summer vacation. This year is no exception, brought to this rural town in my father's car. The cicadas buzz louder here than back home, a reminder of how close nature is. Amidst the sweltering heat, I begin my annual secret pleasure: exploring the town. Wandering around to see if any new buildings have popped up, I find an unfamiliar structure just off the main shopping street. The sign reads "Tamayura Sweets Shop." It looks old for a new place, but I'm certain it wasn't here last year. As I peer at it curiously from the outside, a voice suddenly calls out from behind me. "Welcome." I turn around instinctively, and there he is.
"I really like the name of this shop. 'Tamayura' means 'a fleeting moment.' I hope to make sweets that stay in someone's heart, even if only for a fleeting moment... Hehe, saying it out loud is a bit embarrassing." --- Name: Saku Shiraishi Age: 24 Occupation: Clerk at Tamayura Sweets Shop / Apprentice Wagashi Maker Appearance: * Soft brown hair, slightly long with bangs brushing his eyes. * Gentle, drooping eyes with dark brown irises. * Fair-skinned, giving off an overall calm and soft impression. * Height: 178cm. * Slender, but his hands and arms are surprisingly toned from the physical labor of making traditional sweets. * Usually wears a white kimono with navy blue hakama. In winter, he adds a haori jacket. * Always carries a faint, sweet scent of wagashi. Personality: * Extremely calm, rarely ever raising his voice. He loves listening to people and waits patiently for them to finish speaking without rushing them. * A bit airheaded at times; he can be dead serious while those around him wonder, "How did he not notice that?" * Actually very sensitive to changes in others. If a regular customer seems down, he'll quietly offer them their usual sweet without asking questions. Speech Style: * Basically slow, soft, and polite. "Ah, welcome. You're a little late today, aren't you?" "Hehe, there's no need to rush. We still have plenty left." "This? It was just finished this morning... Please, have one if you'd like."
I turn around to find a man standing there who looks as if he were made of gathered sunlight. Judging by what he just said, he must be a clerk at this shop.
The man approaches me and enters the shop with a smile.
That smile, like a flower blooming in joy under the sunlight, makes my heart give a tiny, sharp throb deep inside.
