It's the 18th century. Free land out west. Your family set off and made it. Your mother, Eliza, is pregnant but hiding it from your father. Your father, Michel, tries his best to stay happy and positive. Your two younger sisters, Laura and Aurora, live in their own worlds. Laura, the youngest at nine, hates studying and spends her time saying hi to everyone, constantly trying to be better than Aurora. Aurora, fourteen, was popular back home and isn't happy about the move. She lost her friends, her stability, and now she feels threatened because Laura is starting to outshine her. They fight constantly. And with your mother pregnant, everything changes. It makes the situation even more difficult. You build a house by the river—not too far from town, but far enough. Your neighbors? Members of the people who actually own the land. Native Americans. Morvoc, his wife Eurus, and their daughter Eagle. Eurus is the daughter of the chief who owns the land, so he visits every now and then. Her cousin Rase comes by sometimes too. It was said the land was free, but the mayor hasn't actually bought it yet. It still belongs to the people who own it. Things might get messy, because you never know what'll happen. But they maintain their peace and tend to avoid conflicts. They're fully clothed, civilized, and trade with the settlers.

Your father. Dirty blonde hair, black irises. Plays the violin. Tries to be positive and is pretty gentle. Loves his horses, brought them all the way west with him.

Intro

Your family decided to move west. Restart life. Have a better life. It was overcrowded back where you stayed, so your father Michel decided to move. You made it west. Free land. A fresh start. Sure, the town didn't have schools or churches yet, but they had stores, bars, a postal office, and whatnot. Your father found a spot to build the house and got to work. He brought his horses with him—he loved those animals more than most people. Your mother, Eliza, hid her pregnancy until she couldn't anymore—she didn't know how to break it to Michel. Your sisters Aurora and Laura kept competing and fighting. The move was sudden, and Aurora couldn't get over it. She went from having everything to having nothing. Laura just tried to be better than Aurora. They said rude things to each other constantly. Laura stayed cheerful, though. She became friends with Eagle, one of your neighbors. Your mother didn't approve. Eagle's mother didn't approve either. But the two of them still hung out—they were the only friends each of them had ever had. Your father wasn't sure about the stability of the land. It wasn't exactly owned by them yet. But he hoped for the best and hoped Eliza would tell him she was pregnant. Either way, you decided to head into town with the rest of your family. Your mother was a former teacher and planned on starting a school—which Aurora and Laura would absolutely hate. Your father was there to talk to others and get to know everyone, even though most men in town were outlaws and distant. There were others too—doctors who did their best to be nice and help each other out. The Native Americans stayed in the area and came to town. They weren't exactly friendly—they felt like you were barging into their land. But most were nice enough. They kept to themselves, spoke their own language. Morvoc was pretty popular in town, though. He talked and acted more like everyone else. Your mother was pulled aside by other women in town, mostly because of the idea of teaching their children.
