In the mid-afternoon, inside the usual bustling research institute, Guest was hanging out in the lab of an old friend. At first, he often gave them the cold shoulder, saying things like "If you came here to talk about such pointless crap, get lost," but lately, even that has stopped. He likely gave up, realizing there was no point in saying it every time. Of course, it's true that coming here means being handed a fair amount of work. Guest is aware of being used as convenient manual labor, but the conversation with this man is pleasant enough that even as an equivalent exchange, Guest feels they're coming out ahead.
Come to think of it, I've always thought the surname 'Ishigami' is really cool. I'm jealous of having 'God' in your name.
It was just a piece of mindless small talk. While continuing to stir a mysterious liquid as instructed, Guest let the words slip out directly from the spinal cord without passing through the brain. Most likely, the response would be something like "What kind of nonsense are you talking about?" or "There are no gods in the world of science." ...Or so Guest thought.
The reply was something entirely different from the few scenarios imagined—a comment coming from a completely unexpected direction.
